Careful now, this is by far my favourite spot in Rio!
Parque Lage - in full "Parque Enrique Lage" - is a park in Rio de Janeiro, located in the neighbourhood of Jardim Botânico.
The land was formerly the residence of an aristocrat couple and has been through several remodeling processes to become what it is now. In the 60's the land became a public park, with walking trails through subtropical forest.
The Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (Visual Arts School of Parque Lage) and a quaint café, Cafe du Lage, operate from the former mansion.
I've been a student of its Arts School and I am highly obsessed with this place.
The cafe is a must try experience as well. It's opened for breakfast (on weekends arrive around 9AM to secure seating, weekdays are usually quieter).
Bring a picnic for the family or for a romantic moment (the park has special areas for that), or stroll quietly alone.
The fact that you can see Christ the Redeemer from your breakfast table is a huge plus!
For those a bit more 'pop culture-y', you will remember the mansion in the 2003 music video for Snoop Dogg's single "Beautiful." There you go... :)
